Fraser Mendel is a business and technology lawyer based in Seattle. He has over 20 years experience doing cross-border business and intellectual property transactions, many of which have involved China. Fraser has worked for many companies structuring their international operations, advising on investing into China, and devising IP protection strategies when companies go international. He has extensive experience in China, including 12 years based in Beijing representing multinationals. He has helped companies set up subsidiaries in China, establish joint ventures, structure cross-border IP transactions, and manage their intellectual property. Along the way he has advised on registering software and technology contracts in China, privacy and data protection requirements, FCPA compliance, and navigating China's regulated sectors. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1994, where he was a Managing Editor of the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal. He concurrently received an M.A. in International Studies (China) from the University of Washington School of International Studies, and then an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1996.
